‘Girls Trip’ Is On The Right Path

By: Diamond Braxton

Comedy is not my forte, so when I tell you that “Girls Trip” was the funniest movie I’ve seen in a while then you know I mean it. In “Girls Trip” you can feel the sisterhood bond between our four favorite queens: Ryan (Regina Hall), Dina (Tiffany Haddish), Lisa (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Sasha (Queen Latifah). The love between these characters feels so real that you almost forget you’re watching a movie, and instead it feels as though you’re just watching friends have fun together. Also Tiffany Haddish will have you laughing the whole way through because her character is comedic and loyal and everything you need in a friend. I hope that “Girls Trip” was the outlet Haddish needed to get her on the big screen more often because she truly was a gem in the movie.

We start off with our four girls meeting up again for the first time in a long time and it’s already apparent there’s a weird dilemma that never got solved between Ryan and Sasha. They’re flying out to New Orleans to celebrate the Essence festival since Ryan and her husband (Mike Colter) were just signed for a talk show titled “You Can Have It All”, where they talk about how successful their relationship is and how they truly do have it all. Except come to find out, they don’t. You find out early on in the film that Ryan’s husband, Stewart, had been caught cheating on Ryan and the only reason they were still together was because they decided to still be “business partners”. That doesn’t blow over very well with the rest of the girls when they run into the adulteress at the Essence festival however.

“Girls Trip” is iconic because it shows you just how important sisterhood is, and trust me, you will shed a tear or two because what’s a sisterhood without some laughs and tears? The movie makes you want to gather up all your gal pals and head to New Orleans to create your own girls trip and grow your bonds closer together. “Girls Trip” shows a hilarious relationships between friends that will push you to have sex when you haven’t gotten it in 2+ years, that will push you to leave your cheating husband, that will push you to follow your goals, and that will show you that they will always be there for you no matter what. You can feel the love radiating from the screen, and it will cause you to want to go out and find your own group of girlfriends if you didn’t have them already. Movies like “Girls Trip” are so important because they show you who will ALWAYS be there for you no matter what. Your spouse might cheat on you, but your friends will never leave you if you keep them close.

If you need to laugh, then go watch “Girls Trip”. If you want to see Jada Smith hanging from a zip line that gets stuck so she has to urinate all over the crowd below her then go see this film. If you need to watch some of your favorite actresses get in a dance-off which then leads into a fight in the club then this movie is for you. If you want to see Mike Colter play a bad guy instead of Luke Cage then go to the theaters. This movie made me laugh, cry, and want to buy it on DVD when it comes out. Also be warned: the comedy is mostly raunchy and completely inappropriate but in the best of ways!

“Girls Trip” is 4 out of 5 stars.
